My primary location is near Las Vegas, with another location in Santa Monica. While I have affiliation with several clubs, I’m most active with the Henderson Amateur Radio Club (Nevada) and the PAPA System (California). I was licensed in 1992 as KD6KHI, and in 2022 I adopted N2NJB.

My Henderson location is situated at a high elevation of 2600 ft at the base of Sloan Canyon, and is 12.5 miles South of the Las Vegas Strip.

MONTANA AVENUE

SANTA MONICA, CA

My Santa Monica location is situated at a low elevation of 260 ft. RF coverage to the North is limited by the Santa Monica Mountains.

The two repeater sites most useful to Santa Monica with respect to the Los Angeles area are Saddle Peak at ~2800 ft between Malibu and Calabasas, and Mount Wilson at ~5700 ft in the Angeles National Forest near Pasadena.

SATCOM via AllStarLink

I’m experimenting with satellite communications. I’m bridging a ground station onto AllStarLink, providing voice communication with the International Space Station (ISS) and other amateur radio capable satellites. The goal is to provide longer satellite communication windows that can be remotely accessed from almost anywhere in the world. The initial RF location for development is my Inspirada site, using an Icom IC-9700 transceiver, the CSN Technologies controller, and two Raspberry Pi computers with custom interfaces to the IC-9700. The initial AllStar Nodes are 499360 (downlink) and 499361 (uplink).
